Leopard Batik

A very early batik piece - I learned batik in about 1970, and had to find sources of the naphthol dyes, and make my own wax resist. I used cotton poplin, and later found that crush-proof poplin was impregnated with resin and didn't take dyes. There were all sorts of similar problems in those days, which I had to conquer. This work was rejected from a major Craft Association exhibition and split the committee down the middle, with Faye Bottrell and Peter Travis on my side. They supported me then and enabled me to begin my career. I am still not beloved of selection committees, and have been rejected from then till now almost constantly. Just as well I am stubborn.
